Elsie Paulene Ahern was born July 30,1939 in Algona, IA to Arnold and Gladys (Hawkins) Schmidt. She passed away Saturday January 18, 2025, in Shelton, WA at the age of 85.
At a young age, her family moved to Bruce, SD. She attended rural school through grade school. She went on to high school in Estelline, SD. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Volga Hospital.
She eventually made her way to Washington state where she held many different jobs which included working at a doctor's office, bookkeeping and in Western Auto a local hardware store in Auburn, WA.
On July 18, 1970, she married the love of her life, James Ahern. James' job took them to eastern Washington and Alaska, where they had many great adventures. After retirement, they enjoyed their trips to Arizona to spend the winter months in the warmer weather. Elsie also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and her flower bed of beautiful geraniums that she would plant every spring.
Survivors include her husband James of 54 years. Her sister Kittie (Bob) Warwick of Summerville, SC. Her brother Dean (Vera) Schmidt of Arlington, SD. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Carol Schmidt, Mildred Kesterson, Naomi Nelson, and Patricia Brooks. Two brothers, Alvin Schmidt and Arnold Schmidt JR.
Viewing on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Forest Funeral Home chapel, 313 W Railroad Avenue, Shelton WA 98584, graveside service at Shelton Memorial Park to follow.
