Emilia Jane Messenger, known affectionately as Emily to her friends and family, passed away peacefully with family by her side on April 7, 2025, in Peshtigo. Born on March 10, 1942, in the quaint town of Malowany, Poland to the late Josef and Bronislawa Bohaczek, On November 30th 1963, Emily married the love of her life Daniel Messenger. Emily's journey was one marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit of giving. Her life was a testament to the strength and warmth that defined her character.
Emily was the beloved matriarch of a large and loving family. Her legacy continues through her daughters, Joann (Tom) TerMaat, Lynn Dehut, and Lisa (Larry) Meeks. She was a proud grandmother to Stephanie (Mike) TerMaat, Christopher TerMaat, Emily Dakins, Daniel (Kaylor) Messenger, Lawrence Meeks, and Garret Goetsch, and was blessed to see the family tree flourish to include 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by her brother Rich and sister Harriet and lifelong friend Judy. Emily is proceeded in death by her husband Daniel Messenger, infant son Daniel Messenger Jr, siblings Marian, Nela, Jean, Rose, Bill, Adam, Al, and Zygmunt as well as her parents, Josef Bohaczek and Bronislawa Dobosiewicz, and a granddaughter Sara Messenger/Peterson.
Though her formal education was limited to seven years, Emily never let that define her potential. Her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) was more than a job; it was a calling. She approached her work with the same love and care that she gave to her family, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and patients alike. Her dedication to her profession was matched only by her commitment to her family, whom she nurtured with the same selflessness and kindness.
Emily's interests were a reflection of her nurturing soul. She was a loving grandma who took immense joy in her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking her kids and grandkids fishing. Her chocolate chip cookies were famous within her family circle, eagerly anticipated at every gathering. Her culinary skills extended to traditional Polish dishes, with her borscht and pierogies being the highlight of many family dinners.
Those who knew Emily will remember her loving nature, her kind gestures, and her selfless attitude. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel cherished and supported. Emily's presence was a comfort to those lucky enough to have known her, and her influence will continue to be felt through the lives she touched.
The Messenger family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the community and the many friends who have been a source of support during this time especially Kristy for her special care and making sure Emily's sheets had no wrinkles in them, Bailee for making sure Emily's nails were always done and looking good, Emily's sister-in-law Mimi for her help and love.
