Eric Ballman Obituary

Eric (Rick) Ballman, 52, of New Ipswich, NH, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 22, 2025. Rick is survived by his loving mother, Sandy Kulakowski of Athol, MA; his adored twin sisters, Danielle Ferguson of Pepperell and Melissa Powers of Athol; his cherished nieces and nephews; Hannah and Ada Ferguson, Daniel and Jace Powers, Katherine McMeniman and Finn McMeniman. He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, and beloved cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Daniel Kulakowski. Born on September 29, 1973, in Lowell, Massachusetts, Rick was filled with curiosity and wonder from the start. He attended the Lowell and Chelmsford Public School systems. A self-made, self-educated, and self-starting man, Rick was known for his kind heart, inquisitive mind, and extraordinary spirit. As a child, he would take apart electronics just to understand how they worked-a passion for learning that never faded. Rick began his career at Roller Kingdom, where he quickly rose through the ranks. He later brought his talents to Wave Guide, starting with laying fiber optics and eventually consulting on city-wide infrastructure plans. Rick was intelligent, hardworking, loyal, and deeply committed to everything he did. He dreamed of retiring off the grid in Alaska, living from the land and embracing a simpler life. He found joy in music, fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Rick was the real deal-genuine, grounded, and present. He didn't sweat the small stuff (or the spare parts), and his authenticity drew people, animals, and children to him. Rick will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Our hearts are broken. He was one of a kind-unapologetically himself, a comforting presence, and a soul who brought light to those around him. A celebration of life will be held in August.
