Eric Jey Harper, 65, of rural Topeka, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Oakley Place Care Center in Topeka, KS. Born April 2, 1960, in Topeka, Eric was the son of Jerry Dean and Sue Carol Embry Harper. He graduated from Jefferson West High School in 1978 After high school, Eric began his career at the local co-op, starting at the filling station before moving to the grain elevator. Over the years, he also pursued several entrepreneurial ventures, including owning a gun shop and the Oasis bar and grill, both of which became familiar spots to many in the community. He eventually returned to working for R & S Maintenance before becoming disable. He was known for his strong work ethic, down-to-earth nature, and sense of humor that could brighten any room. Eric was a lifetime member of the Meriden V.F.W. Post 10815 Auxiliary and made history as the organization's first Auxiliary President. He was also a former member of the Moose Lodge in Topeka. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking care of his yard, and never missed a chance to watch his daughter play softball-one of his greatest joys as a father. On January 29, 1993, Eric married the love of his life, Teresa Elaine Dunshie, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They shared over three decades of laughter, love, and adventure together. Teresa preceded him in death on March 31, 2025, just months before his own passing. Eric was a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his mother, Sue Carol Harper of Topeka; two daughters Erica (Zack) Robertson of Topeka and Megan Harper of Kansas City, KS; and his beloved granddaughter, Harper Robertson, who brought him so much joy. He is also survived by two sisters, Peggy (Keary) Donaldson of Topeka and Diane Dawley of Spring, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Dean Harper, and a sister, Connie Hood. Eric had a deep appreciation for music, good conversation, and the simple pleasures in life-especially time spent with family. He had a quiet strength and generous heart that touched many lives. Eric's legacy lives on in the family and friends who loved him dearly. His memory will be cherished always. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Meriden Cemetery. Memorials suggested to Midland Hospice Care of Topeka.
