PEREZ
Eric Leo Perez, 41 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. He was born in Alice, Texas on August 21, 1983 to his parents, Leo Perez and Belinda Everett-Lerma. A proud graduate of Benavides High School, Class of 2001, Eric was a standout football player and was honored as an All-South Texas Player for his talent and dedication on the field. At the age of 18, he began working in the oilfield industry, where his strong work ethic and leadership led him to rise through the ranks to become a respected drilling consultant.
Eric was a devoted member of Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church, where he once served as an altar boy. He had a deep passion for riding his Harley-Davidson and often participated in charity rides, including events supporting the homeless and Toys for Tots. He also found great joy in barbequing and spending quality time with his loved ones.
Eric will be remembered for his generous heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. He was a kindhearted gentleman, deeply loved by his family and respected by many. A loving father, son, and hardworking man, Eric lived a life rooted in love, dignity, and integrity.
It is important to us to make one thing clear: Eric was not a criminal. He came from a strong and honest family and did not deserve to be dehumanized in his final moments. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was proceeded in death by his maternal grandmother, Dalia Chapa; uncle, David Everett; his paternal grandmother, Margarita Perez and paternal grandfather, Enrique L. Perez.
Eric is survived by his beloved daughter, Hailey Ann Perez of Alice, Texas; his mother, Belinda (Nestor) Lerma of Benavides, Texas; his father, Leo Perez (Maricela Canales) of Corpus Christi, Texas; his sister, Katrina Lynn Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas; half-sister, Sofia L., Perez of Houston, Texas; grandfather, Oscar (Sylvia) Everett of Benavides, Texas; two nephews, Ethan Vasquez, and Darren Martinez.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Rites of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Interment will follow at Everett Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
