Ernest "Deacon" Barrett, age 73, of Independence, Mo, passed away on October 20, 2025.

Ernest Barrett was born on February 1, 1952 in Newark, New York to Robert & Eva Barrett. From a young age, he possessed a deep sense of duty, discipline, and love for country qualities that guided him throughout life.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. During his service, he was known for his leadership, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the mission and fellow Airmen. He carried the spirit of the Air Force, Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do - in every aspect of life.

After his military service, Ernest continued to serve the community through becoming a Life Enrichment Coordinator where he would volunteer, mentor other veterans, and serve those in need. Friends and family remember him for his kindness, humor, wisdom, patriotism, and love of others. A Military funeral honors and Committal service will take place at the Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 1:30pm. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and Mission of Love Adult Day Care in Ernest's honor. Ernest served with pride and lived with purpose. His legacy of service, love, and honor will continue to inspire all who knew him.
