Ernest Landon Peters, of Enterprise, Oklahoma, went home to be with the Lord on May 25, 2025 at the age of 88, surrounded by his family.
Ernest was born on November 7, 1936 in Russellville, Oklahoma, to William and Ada Peters. He grew up in Russellville and attended school there. Ernest married Wanda Kathryn Peters on October 4, 1955. Shortly after they married, he was deployed overseas to Korea for 16 months. Upon his return, they began their married life in Stigler, Oklahoma. Their first child, Donna, was born at home in March, 1958. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Oklahoma City. Tammie was born in July, 1959, followed by Mark in August, 1962. In February 1965, they suffered the loss of their 3 month old son, Ernest Todd. During his time in Oklahoma City, Ernest worked for the Dolese Company. In early 1974, the family relocated to Enterprise, Oklahoma. Ernest briefly worked for Dolese in McAlester but soon pursued self-employment, building houses and cellars and excelling as a concrete mason. He also operated a minnow route for several years. In 1985, Ernest and Wanda purchased Quinton Auto Parts, which they ran alongside their son, Mark, until their retirement in 2008. In retirement, Ernest enjoyed raising cattle. Ernest never met a stranger. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and cherished his family and his faith in Jesus. He is surely rejoicing in Heaven with Wanda and other loved ones. Ernest was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Ernest is survived by his two daughter; Donna (Lindell) Wilson of Mcalester, Oklahoma, and Tammie (Ed) Chism of Northport, Alabama; One son, Mark (Gayla) Peters of Quinton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amber (Bryant) Rylee, Blake (Cambria) Wilson, Todd (Michelle) Chism, Tyler (Destanie) Wilson, Kase Peters, Maecy (Jared) Kirkland and Hanna Peters; great grandchildren, Christian Rylee, Lilyanna Chism, Leona Chism, Loretta Chism, Elsie Chism, Grayson Wilson, Ellison Wilson, Aiden Wilson, Chip Kirkland, Kye Kirkland, Bailey Bigham and Hunter Bigham; three sisters, Vivian Duvall, Joyce Parnell (Bobby) and Wilda Buie (Tommy) and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ada Peters; wife, Wanda Peters; son, Ernest Todd Peters; sisters, Arvela Johnson and Oleta Bryant; and brothers, Ervin Peters and Everett Peters.
