Ethyl Elena Smith (Cox), age 78, of Pataskala, passed away at home with her family on Monday, July 14, 2025. She is the daughter of the late Wilbur and Louise Cox (Case) of Hopedale, Ohio. She was born at home on April 12, 1947 in Hopedale, Ohio. She was a full-time mother and homemaker. She enjoyed her years of employment with Big Bear in the bakery department, at K-mart in the business office, and being a hostess/waitress at the racetrack.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James and beloved daughter, Stephane Cundiff (Capers); Siblings: Elizabeth, Donald, Flora, and Sandra.

Ethyl is survived by her daughters Tina (Michael) Capers-Cundiff and Darcy Capers. Sisters: Karen, Mary Ann, Stella, Debra, and Amy. Brothers: David and Ray. Grand Children: Jordan, Stephen (Courtney), Raymond (Erica), Aaron, Carly (Lenny), and Jesse. Great Grand Children: Vitori, Sonny, Aurora, Kix, Eli, Naomi, and Leo.

Ethyl was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was an excellent cook; enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, dancing, playing the slots, bingo, cheering on the OSU Buckeyes and spending time with family and friends.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Hopedale, 237 Church St., Hopedale, OH 43976. Food will be served for family and friends at the church following the service.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 4:00pm at East Side Grace Brethren Church, 7510 East Broad Street, Blacklick, OH 43004. Refreshments to be served following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions can be made to the United Methodist Church of Hopedale P.O. Box 355 Hopedale OH 43976.
