1935 - 2025
Eugene Karl Jutzi age 89, of Moltke Township passed away peacefully at Medilodge Memory Care Unit in Rogers City on Thursday, July 10, 2025, on the day of his and Mary's 54th Wedding Anniversary.
Eugene was born in Saginaw on December 17, 1935, to Edward and Gertrude (Nowack) Jutzi.
He graduated from Arthur Hill High School, Saginaw in 1953. He served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958. He earned the Rank of IC3 (Interior Communications Electrician Petty Officer Third Class) in 1956. He had a long career with Yellow Freight System as a long-distance truck driver. After a back injury, he attended State Technical Institute and Rehabilitation Center to learn clock, watch and jewelry repair, graduating in 1983. Soon after, he opened Jutzi's Watch, Clock and Jewelry Repair business in Ocqueoc along US Highway 23. Throughout his life he enjoyed singing, having been taught well by his father, who was a Lutheran elementary school teacher, principal, and high school director of music. Eugene had a soaring tenor voice, which granted him many opportunities to sing solos at weddings and church services. In church he could be heard singing, often adding a descant from memory during the third stanza of hymns. He had the "gift of gab". He enjoyed talking with people and loved to tell a good story. He was the self-appointed greeter at church for many years. He also enjoyed camping, crocheting and weaving blankets. He and his wife Mary did all those things together and were also able to spend twenty winters in southern Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Gertrude (Nowack) Jutzi, his wife Mary Jutzi, sisters Dorthy Jutzi, Lois Peitsch, Gertrude Sturm, brother Edward Jutzi Jr and stepdaughter Marcia (Bruce) Butgereit.
Eugene is survived by his three children, Jean Amico (Paul Hoskins) of Chino Valley, Arizona; Karl (Laurie) Jutzi of Paw Paw; Jane (Chad) Cohoon of Kalamazoo, and his stepchildren, Jerry (Karen) Bruin of Greenville, Midge (Kevin) Krueger of Colorado City, Colorado; Marlene (Alvin) Gehrke of St. Peters, Missouri; Marilynn Klawiter of Watertown, New York; Marji (Jim) Scheele of Cheboygan; and Marla (Karl) Koepke of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His grandchildren are Jodi, Kristopher, Nicholas, Taylor, Ericka, James and Savanna and his step grandchildren are Emily, Beverly, Russ, Stephanie, Theresa, Theodore, Joseph, Jennifer, James, Julia, David, Adam, Luke, Pete, Bridgette, Fred, Cody, Jon, Mandy, Jessi, Patrick, William, Kate and Mikah. His great grandchildren are Colton, Sylvia, Vincent, Kane, Ophelia, Payton and Lucas and his step great grandchildren are Rylan, Katelyn, Russell Eric, Jackson, Nicholas, Sidney, Gavyn, Devan, Shelby, Daniel, Braden, Violet, Amos, Avery, Brooklyn, Cory, Greta, Henry, Ava, Dakota, Rudy, David, Brady, Logan, Liam, Felix, Holden, Audrey, Hope, Hayli, Tucker, Sophie, Oliver, Isabela, Finley and Soren.
