Evelyn Frances (Green) Buelow born on November 24, 1935 passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025.

Evelyn, known as Chickie for most of her life, passed away after an extended illness, which she faced bravely, fiercely and always with grace. Her family thanks those who provided the compassionate care she received especially from The Retreat at Alameda, HonorHealth and Hospice of the Valley.

Chickie was born in Ajo, Arizona and in her youth lived in various locations in Arizona including Oatman and Tempe. She was proud to be a third-generation Arizona native and appreciated that her family has extended the streak another three generations, and counting.

Except for a short time in her childhood when she lived on the California side of the Colorado River and a few years living in California in the early 1960’s, Chickie happily resided in Arizona. She loved both her north Phoenix home with open-ended views and her cabin in the high country surrounded by ponderosa pines.

She attended St. Mary’s elementary school and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. It was while continuing her education at what is now Arizona State University that Chickie met a young airman from the nearby base known as Willie’s. They soon began their life together focused on faith, family and friendship with no shortage of fun. When her three children were young the family’s Catholic parish was Ss. Simon and Jude where many lasting friendships began. Later Chickie and her husband became active in Our Lady of Joy in Carefree and Our Lady of Assumption in Heber-Overgaard.

During her lifetime Chickie visited most, if not all, of Arizona’s desert and mountain lakes. She also enjoyed other travels including Canada for epic fishing trips, Alaska land and ocean tours and Hawaii, including a cruise with her son on his honeymoon. There were also many trips to her husband’s home state of Wisconsin, always travelling by car and always getting there in record time. In Wisconsin Chickie formed strong bonds with both family and stead-fast friends which endure. Her friendships with people throughout the country extend to those she met in her youth and beyond. All remain important to and appreciated by Chickie and her family.

Chickie is preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick;” parents Vivian (Robl) and Milton Green; brothers Robert Green and William Green. She is also preceded by her precious grandson Karson Buelow.

Chickie’s children Donna (Chris), Milt (Terry) and Rick (Deana) survive her. She leaves behind her beloved six grandchildren along with their partners and spouses and ten great-grandchildren. Chickie is also survived by her loving brother Ed (Mary), cherished extended family members and many dear friends, nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 5 – 7 PM with a 6 PM rosary at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85018. Mass is to be held on Wednesday, March 26th at 10 AM at Our Lady of Joy Catholic Church, 36811 N Pima Rd, Carefree, AZ 85377. Burial to follow mass at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024.
