Evonne Joy Meyer of Loveland, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at the age of 78, following a lengthy illness. Her life was a tapestry of faith, creativity, family devotion, and service to others. Born on August 13, 1946, in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Evonne was the beloved daughter of Harvey and Evelyn Leuning. Growing up on her family's farm near Dell Rapids, she cherished country life, taking enjoyment in helping her parents with daily chores and savoring the rhythms of rural livings. Evonne attended a small country grade school less than a mile from her childhood home, before graduating from Dell Rapids High School in 1964. After attending a few years of nursing school in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Evonne decided to move to Tempe, Arizona, to be near her sister and brother-in-law. It was there that she met Gerry Meyer, whom she married on August 17, 1968, in Dell Rapids. Together, they built a loving family and welcomed their two children, Kristen and Steven, while living in Arizona. In 1976, the family relocated to Loveland, Colorado, where they have resided ever since. Evonne dedicated herself to raising her two children. She boldly took on the challenges associated with raising her son, Steven, who was born with special needs and benefited from her attentive and nurturing care. Despite the challenges and responsibilities, Evonne's creative spirit flourished. She was gifted in arts and crafts, producing many beautiful handmade items that were appreciated by others familiar with her talents. Her culinary skills were equally admired; friends and family eagerly gathered to enjoy her delicious, healthy meals, always prepared with love. As her children gained independence, Evonne expanded her endeavors beyond the home. She worked in several part-time positions, including years as an orthodontist assistant and as a sales associate. Through each role, she shared her warmth and friendliness with all she met. Evonne's Christian faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She was deeply involved in volunteer work within her church communities, generously dedicating her time and talents. At King of Glory Lutheran Church in Loveland, she led a congregation-wide project to create a large latch-hook wall hanging, which remains in the worship center as a testament to her leadership and artistry. Evonne also served Redeemer Lutheran Church in various capacities, volunteering and contributing as part-time paid staff. Evonne's gift for connection shone in every aspect of her life. She was known for her cheery smile, welcoming spirit, and sense of humor, qualities that endeared her to a wide circle of friends and family. Evonne was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Evelyn Leuning. She is survived by her husband, Gerry Meyer; her children: Kristen Meyer of Fairplay, CO, and Steven Meyer of Loveland, CO; her two beloved sisters; Judy Sagmoe of Yankton, SD, and Bonnie Berg of Olathe, KS, and her brother and his wife: Rev. Harvey and Cheryl Leuning, of Mendota Heights, MN. In her later years, Evonne was lovingly cared for by many wonderful caretakers, for whom the family is profoundly grateful.
