Florence M. (Obrecht) Honeck, of State Center, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. She passed at the age of 85 on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
A Mass of Christian Burial has been scheduled for Thursday, July 10, 2025, starting at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in State Center, Iowa. Father Richmond Dzekoe will be officiating. Florence will be laid to rest at the St. James Cemetery in Colo. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the family for later designation to a scholarship fund with the West Marshall Foundation. Florence Mae (Obrecht) Honeck was born on January 17, 1940, in State Center, Iowa. She was the daughter of John J. and Goldie I. (Arnold) Obrecht. Florence attended kindergarten at a country school and then continued her education at State Center Community School District. On March 19, 1959, she married Larry Honeck in Florida. Florence worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service for 30 years until her retirement. In her free time, she enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader, camping, playing golf, snow skiing, biking- RAGBRAI, reading, gardening, cooking, but especially spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She loved to attend their sporting events and other school related activities.
Left to honor Florence’s memory are her children: Sherry Bailey of State Center, Theresa “Tess” (Paul) Clawson of Rhodes, Stephanie (Troy) Allen of Bettendorf, and Rodney (Buffi) Honeck of State Center; her grandchildren: Annie (Scott) Kemmerer, Robyn (Cody) Hackett, Vincent Clawson, Jacoby Honeck, Olivia Allen, and Madeleine Allen; her great grandchildren: Connor, Nelle, Brynn, Hadlee, Harper, and Huxton, and her sister Floy Biggert of Jacksonville, FL.
She is preceded in death by her parents: John and Goldie; her companion Larry Honeck; and her brothers: Alvin and Raymond Obrecht.
