Born on November 10, 1951, to Erma Beavers and Russell Wood in Denver, CO. David Michael Wood, fondly known as "Fluff," passed away at his home on July 1, 2025.
Fluff spent his childhood exploring Boise and its surroundings before moving to Stanley in 1977. There, he embarked on a vibrant career as a guide on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River and a camp cook in hunting camps. In 1979, he married his sweetheart, Deb Hunzeker, and together they raised their daughter, Camas, in Stanley until 1992 when they moved downriver to Challis.
In the early '90s, Fluff attended Miller's Bit and Spur Making School and discovered his passion for silversmithing, and crafting beautiful bits and spurs. Despite his new path, he never missed a chance to guide a trip down the river or impress hunters with his culinary skills. Fluff's storytelling was legendary, and he loved sharing his adventures with anyone who would listen, even if they had heard the tales many times before.
As guiding on the river became less frequent, Fluff found joy in taking friends on ATV and UTV adventures, always ready with a good story and a hearty laugh. His spirit of adventure and love for life will be remembered by all who knew him.
Survived by Camas (Justin) Walker and his grandchildren Ridge and Addison. Sisters Naydene (Loy) Aikman, Jane (Gary) Tilton, Terri (Mike) Hamilton and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his precious wife, Deb Wood, parents Russell Wood and Erma B. Wood, sister Russeline Smith, brother Charles S. (Jeanine) Wood, sister Sondra J. Reavis.
There will be a celebration of life for Fluff on July 26th, following the Morley-Wood Memorial Golf Tournament in Challis. In leu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made to The Heart of Idaho Animal Sanctuary in Challis. https://heartofid.org/
