Francis "Frank" Martin Burke, 62, of Whitman, Massachusetts went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 18th, 2025. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. After a courageous three and a half year battle with cancer, Frank is now healed and whole in Heaven.
To know Frank was to love him. He treated everyone he met with genuine kindness, respect, and a loving compassion that reflected his heavenly Father's. Frank was the embodiment of a humble leader and a patient teacher in all areas of his life. Whether in his work at Devereaux, service at Calvary Chapel, or role as a husband and father, Frank's perseverance, consistency, dedication, and optimism were unwavering. Anyone who knew him could attest to his bright smile, a testament to the joy he found in Christ.
Born in Sligo, Ireland to his parents Patrick Joseph Burke and Mary (Lyons) Burke, Frank and his seven siblings grew up in rural Ballyfarnon, Roscommon, Ireland. His humble upbringing without running water or electricity instilled in him a lifelong ingenuity and resourcefulness as well as an incredible work ethic. He carried these attributes with him as he emigrated to America at the age of 23 and arrived in Boston, Massachusetts without connections or family. He soon found both, working in a variety of fields and meeting Mary, the love of his life, in 1989 and marrying her back in Ireland in 1991.
Frank spent most of his professional life working in the natural gas utilities industry. He worked with R.J. Devereaux Corporation for 23 years, moving from a laborer to a foreman, and eventually to the director of safety and training. Frank committed to everything wholeheartedly and his work was no exception. He brought his diligence, problem solving skills, discernment, and signature "Burke" hustle to every aspect of his job seen or unseen, becoming a teacher and mentor to many of his coworkers. Frank always felt blessed to be part of the extended family at Devereaux and loved to share stories of his time there.
Frank is survived by his wife of 33 years Mary (Curley) Burke, and daughters Sharon, Laura, and Emily Burke, as well as siblings Padraig Burke of London, England, Marie (Burke) Quinlan of Galway, Ireland, Anthony Burke of Norwood, Noel Burke of Nottingham, England, Ann (Burke) Whelan of Roscommon, Ireland, and Brendan Burke of Weymouth. He was also a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Mary Burke and his brother Michael Burke.
Frank enjoyed going on walks with his wife and family, spending time outdoors kayaking and taking photographs, maintaining his beautiful garden and lawn, and coming up with creative and ingenious "Macgyver"-like solutions to problems.
The most important part of Frank's life was his walk with Jesus. After becoming a born again Christian in 1996, his religion became a relationship and Jesus Christ became the cornerstone of Frank's life. He attended Calvary Chapel Boston in Rockland for over 26 years,
answering the call to serve in any capacity. Whether teaching in a Sunday School classroom or on a Wednesday night, leading men's Bible study, ministering at home with marriage ministry, Bible studies, and prayer groups, serving in the prison ministry or on missions in Mexico, or
simply praying over the phone, he approached all his service with complete commitment to the leading of the Holy Spirit. He will be remembered for worshipping wholeheartedly every Sunday
with hands lifted high. Frank was approachable, always willing to lend a hand, offer a listening ear, provide encouragement and wisdom, or lift up a prayer.
Frank was a jack of all trades and a man who wore many hats - husband, father, brother, friend, pastor, mentor, teacher, neighbor, and many more but above all his life was a living witness for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In every aspect of his life, Frank could truly say, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7).
Funeral services will be private, but all are invited to a Celebration of Life memorial service at Calvary Chapel - 175 Market St. Rockland, MA on Sunday, January 26th at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory may be made to Samaritan's Purse.

He wasn´t a man he was a gift, and he was my hero to marry in the girls. I don´t have any words other than at the Bible study. He mentioned how proud he was of you guys and how lucky he was. He called me every Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:30. We would pray for my son, Heat taught me on a walk with God he was a walking thesaurus. I will miss him Selfishly, My prayers go out to Mary and the girls. The gift is just gone temporarily, " that´s what I referred to him as the" gift "Because that´s what he was that knew him. He was truly a gift.

I met Frank only last June when in spite of illness he returned to Ireland to share the Gospel at Ballinasloe Horse Fair. It was a privilege to know him, his vibrant faith was evident for all to see. How thrilled he was to be part of the evangelistic outreach together with the team from Boston. Now "he has gone in to see the King" and hear the words "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of the Lord" May we who tarry a while here be worthy followers in his footsteps.

The first time I met Frank, now this might sound strange; but I don´t fully remember all the details because I was a baby though what I do remember is his love in that moment etched into my memory is the big smile he would always wear upon his face and the warmth of his presence he would always embrace you with. Frank is my uncle, I have many fond memories of my my uncle from gathering at my aunt and uncle`s house, to playing with my cousins Sharon, Laura and Emily, and celebrating birthdays over the years for many family members in ages that ranged from newborn and up. What a lot of people don´t realize is that even though he is my mother´s brother-in-law which someone say that only makes us related through marriage I don´t believe it. You know the phrasing I don´t believe it till I see it well, that´s how it was for my siblings and I with our uncle; unless you saw a written document that said that we were only related by marriage you would think we were related by blood. To me to be related by blood Can be anyone as long as they hold the characteristics of what Frank held in his mind, his soul, and in his heart he loved all of us like we were his own kids. He always knew how to make us laugh and how to show he cared. He made it his business to be there for every single one of us with every moment that´s spared. This is why I say this with a heavy heart I will always miss him, but this is never a goodbye This will only ever be a see you later alligator even if it takes a while my tears will never be crocodile that I shed for you I hold your memories, dear thank you for being a great uncle and for being your true authentic self, I couldn´t ask for any better.

It touched my heart in the deepest of ways that Frank and Mary attended my deceased son´s wake just a few months ago. What a consolation to me. Frank was so ill himself with progressive disease, but you would have never guessed by his demeanor and by his gentle kind focus on my own well being. I believe this was just before he took a huge dive physically for the worse. I knew Mary fairly well through my sister Diane... we´d had sister fellowship, prayed together, and done some things socially; but I knew Frank hardly at all, except to say an occasional hello at Calvary Chapel Boston. He didn´t know my son. But there he was... having come way out of his way and no doubt having signed up for significant discomfort and having chosen comforting a grieving mom over many other choices...by making the trip. This wonderful man obviously knew what the presence of brothers and sisters in the faith, loving through action, means to those who are deeply grieving. It was a long car trip for Frank and Mary to be present at that wake and to extend their personal heartfelt kind and genuine condolences. It touched me deeply in my spirit and helped me during a profoundly deep valley. Love goes, love comes, love serves, love suffers. Mary and girls you were and are all a huge blessing to one another and to others. Grateful for the opportunity to get to witness who you are in our Lord. Much love to you all.

Mary and girls,
We are sadden to hear about the passing of Frank. Frank always had a smile on his face and made your day better. We LOVED his thick brogue. His love for you and the girls was evident as much as his love for the Lord. He was a servant with a servant's heart. As much as everyone is grieving for his loss, we are rejoicing with the saints. Frank has heard "Well done." Hugs to all of you. Keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.
