Frank John Sanborn, 79, of Chardon, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born on April 9, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late John and Eleanor (née Majsterek) Sanborn, Frank dedicated his life to service, family, and community.
Frank's distinguished law enforcement career spanned an incredible 52 years. He served with unwavering commitment in the police departments of Woodmere, Chagrin Falls, and finally as a deputy at the Geauga County Sheriff's Office. During 25 Years with Chagrin, he served as patrol officer, detective sergeant and executive lieutenant. A devoted instructor with the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy, Frank specialized in numerous disciplines, including firearms and bomb technician. He took pride in mentoring future generations of law enforcement officers and led with integrity and purpose.
In 1986, Frank and his beloved wife Pat (née Mastro), also a fellow officer, moved to Chardon, where they built a life rooted in public service and shared passions. Outside of work, Frank embraced the outdoors and hands-on craftsmanship. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and competition shooter-especially at Camp Perry. He was also a skilled gunsmith and proud owner of a tree farm. A dedicated handyman, Frank spent four decades lovingly restoring his century home, one project at a time.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Pat Sanborn; children Frank Sanborn Jr., Steve (David) Sanborn, Paul Scott (Diane) Lorenzo, and Erin (David) Pitz; grandchildren Austin and Adam Lorenzo and Hunter Philips and Cole Pitz; and sister Patricia Sommerfelt. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Eleanor, and his brother, William Sanborn. Frank's legacy of service, hard work, and love for family and community will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon. Ohio 44024.
