Franklin D. "Frank" Smith, 90, died July 10, 2025, at Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie.
He was born Dec. 3, 1934, in New Hampton, Harrison Co., Missouri, the son of John and Elizabeth Dodge Smith. A lifetime resident of Kingman County, he was Street Superintendent, Assistant Fire Chief, City Commissioner and Mayor, all for the city of Kingman. Frank retired from the City of Kingman in 1997 and the Kingman Fire Department in 2005.
After graduating from Kingman High School in 1952, he went to a Rodeo in Harper, Kansas, after which he started riding bulls.
Frank was a veteran of the U.S. Army, enlisting from 1957-1959
On Jan. 22, 1966, he married Ann Morris-Coffey; she died Feb. 8, 2020. He was also preceded in death by daughter Gayla Messenger; and brother Francis. Survivors include sons Ron (Kathy), Randy (Vanora) and Garry (Betty); son-in-law Jon Messenger; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Judy Flickner; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 14, at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the funeral home, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Hoosier Cemetery.
Memorials may be made with the Prairie Sunset Home.
