Freddie Ambrose
(1949-2025)
Freddie Steven Ambrose was born in Antigua West Indies, on April 10th, 1949, and was
called home by the Lord on June 24th, 2025.
Freddie was his mother Angela Millwood's only child. However, as an adult he met
other siblings fathered by his dad. At age 9 he moved to New York City where he
attended school and enlisted in the Army in October 1967 at the suggestion from family
members who had previously served.
Freddie fought in the Vietnam War as a Private (P)E-1. While in the service he earned
The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three (3) Bronze
Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge,
Expert (Rifle M-14) Marksman (M-60MG), and Sharpshooter (Rifle M-16). After his
military service, Freddie worked at the Waldorf Astoria, and at several other places in
New York City. He retired early due to a service-connected disability, and moved to
Miami, Florida.
In Miami he met his wife Sonia, and they were married in 2003. In 2004 together they
formed a nonprofit organization "Thinking of You Services", which sent care packages to
active-duty servicemen overseas and basic trainees. While living in the town of Cutler
Bay, a Miami suburb, he was a past President of The Concerned Citizens Group. He
also served for several years in many ministries at Christ Fellowship Church, Palmetto
Bay, Florida, before moving to Lake County, Florida in 2019.
Freddie was loving, kind and a caring Christian who liked to discuss Bible topics. Giving
gifts was another one of his favorite pastimes and made many people unexpected
recipients. His talkative, jovial personality always made others remark that he was fun
to be around.
In addition to his wife Sonia Ambrose, Freddie is also survived by his mother Angela
(Angie) Millwood, in New York, his daughter Monifa Uruhu-Lager, and grandsons Elijah
and Julian in Sweden, his uncle Francis and aunt Jessamine, his stepdaughter
Francoise and her family, many cousins, and other dear relatives and friends.
