Freddie Mays, 76, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:51 p.m. on July 1, 2025, at Saint Vincent Heart Center in Carmel.
Born November 25, 1948, in Lovett, he was the son of Samuel and Laura (Sipes) Mays.
Freddie was a 1967 graduate of North Vernon High School. He retired as a machinist after 26 years at Arvin Industries. He worked at Starks Mechanical in Columbus and retired from Barber tool rental in 2011. Freddie loved NASCAR, music, going fishing, tossing horseshoes, and spending time with family. Freddie enjoyed hunting for arrowheads and mushrooms. He could always find a four-leaf clover. Freddie was a member of the Moose Lodge, and Am Vets Post 7.
Survivors include his son, Charlie (Lindsey) Mays of North Vernon; daughter, Sandra (Scott) Bishop of North Vernon; brother, Ron (Debbie) Mays of Vernon; sister Marlene Bohall of Lovett; grandchildren, Lindsey Wooley, Cody (Kayla) Bishop, Kelsey (Chad) McHaley and Will Bishop all of North Vernon, Camden and Bryson Mays of Butlerville; step-grandchildren, Luke Robbins of Jennings County, Lathen Sturgill and Lainey Marksberry of Commiskey; great grandchildren, Donovan Courter of Osgood, Loryn Wooley of Jennings County, Kinley Bishop, Cayleb Bishop, Elaina McHaley, Alice McHaley, Amelia McHaley, Kynnedi Bishop, Lainey Bishop, and Greyson Wooley all of North Vernon.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Doug, Larry, Jack, Bob, and Lionel Dean Mays; sisters, Donnie Spicer and Barb Darringer.
A celebration of life to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the Am Vets post #7 in North Vernon. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Freddie through the funeral home to Am Vets Post 7.
