Gaetano 'Tom' Antimo Cantiello, a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, passed away on March 20, 2025, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Tom, a longtime resident of Montgomery, was born on November 9, 1947, in the Bronx, New York. Tom was the son of Antimo and Yolanda Cantiello. He was raised in New City, New York, where he developed a strong sense of duty and patriotism. At the age of 17, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, completing 12 weeks of rigorous training at Parris Island, South Carolina. He was later stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and served with distinction during two deployments in the Vietnam War in 1966 and 1967, as part of the 1st Amphibian Tractor Battalion, 3rd Marine Division; he was also an active reservist until 1970 and served with the local Marine Corps Color Guard for numerous years after his honorable discharge from the Corps.
Tom worked as an electrician for 30 years and was a proud member of IBEW Local Union 363, where he built many lifelong friendships.
Tom loved the outdoors and spent much of his free time target shooting, hunting, fishing, and boating. He was also a gun smith and an avid gun collector with a deep appreciation for history and enjoyed sharing what he knew.
Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Linda of 49 years; his son, Christopher, and daughter-in-law, Dorthy; his daughter, Renee, and son-in-law, James; and his son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Kelly. He also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren: Andrew, Vincent, Sophia, Roman, and Charlotte.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Tom's life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Name of Mary Church, 89 Union St., Montgomery, New York. Interment will take place Monday, July 21, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, New York.
