Carolyn "Gail" Walker, born on October 30, 1954, in Brownfield, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, surrounded by her closest family whom she loved dearly at the age of 70. A remarkable woman, Gail dedicated over twenty years of her life as the custodial maintenance supervisor for Tahoka Independent School District, demonstrating unwavering commitment to her work and community. She also served as the Activities Director for various nursing homes, including APEX, Brownfield Rehab, Lakeridge Nursing & Rehab, and Mi Casita, where her warm spirit uplifted the lives of many residents.
Growing up in Brownfield and attending Brownfield School, Gail cultivated a deep sense of community that would continue to flourish throughout her life. Known for her exceptional skills as a seamstress, she devoted much of her time altering band uniforms and crafting prom dresses, leaving a lasting impression on countless young lives. Gail's love for sewing extended beyond mere craftsmanship; it was a cherished heritage that she passed down to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her quilted creations and t-shirt blankets stood as testaments to her creativity and love, woven into the fabric of family gatherings and cherished memories.
Gail was a proud member of the Texas Order of Confederate Rose, further showcasing her deep-rooted connection to her heritage and community. One of her proudest accomplishments was acquiring her cosmetology license, a testament to her diverse talents and passions.
Gail is survived by her beloved husband of 13 years, Mike Walker of Tahoka; children: Sheri Gwin of Tahoka, David Quisenberry and wife Amanda of Haslet, Stephen Quisenberry and wife Amanda of Lubbock, and Michelle Vick and husband Jerry of Lubbock; daughter-in-law, Lanae Gwin of Tahoka; bonus children, Darren Sowell and wife Janet of Clermont, Florida, Scott Walker, Stephanie Garcez and husband Tommy, and Angie Rose, all of Tahoka; siblings: Dale Dyke and wife Kathy, Gwen Dyke, Harlon Dyke and wife Louise, Barbara Dyke, Deborah Richmond, Billy Dyke and wife June, and Danny Dyke; 36 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way!
Gail is preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Irene (Moeller) Dyke; son, Terry Gwin; grandson, Trey Daves; and son-in-law, Sean Scoggin.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Tahoka. Services will be at 11:00 am Monday, June 30, 2025, at Trinity Church with interment to follow at Nevels Memorial Cemetery.
