Garry J. French, 78, of Nooseneck Hill Road, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the former husband of Alma J. Houghton.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Lemuel and Blanche (Paliotta) French.

Garry loved the outdoors. He spent time fishing, hunting, and walking in the woods, especially near Big River. He also had a lifelong love of dogs, beginning with his first spaniel, Lady, whom he adored as a child. As an adult, he had Dobermans and Irish Setters, and while raising his family, he had Brittany Spaniels-just like he had growing up. Later in life, he enjoyed the company of his "dog grandchildren," who always made him smile.

One of the most meaningful chapters of his life was raising his family on Johnson's Pond, in a home he loved deeply. That time and place left a lasting impression on his children, instilling in them a deep love of nature.

He is survived by his children, Garry J. French, Jr. of Sarasota, FL, Alea C. French of West Greenwich, RI, and Kerry M. Caringi of White Lake, MI; and his sister, Gail French of Fayetteville, TN. He was the father of the late Kimberly French and was predeceased by his brother, Wayne French.

At the family's request, Garry's services and burial will be private.
