Gary Lyn Berry, 79 of Austin, passed away on Monday July 14, 2025. Visitation will be held on Friday July 18, 2025 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at First Baptist Church in Florence. A celebration of life and faith will be held immediately after at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Florence Cemetery followed by lunch at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Gary was born December 10, 1945, in Lampasas, Texas to Clarence and Lurlean "Marley" Barry. He graduated from Florence High School in 1964. Gary joined the Air Force in March 1966.
He met the love of his life Somboon "Lek" Yuyuanyong in Bangkok Thailand when stationed there with the Air Force. They married on October 5, 1970. Gary adopted his wife's daughter Sunisa in 1973. She was 8 years old.
While in the Air Force his many tours of duty included Washington D.C., NKP Thailand, Hickam AFB Hawaii, Canon AFB Base Clovis New Mexico, Spangdahlem Germany, Calumet AFB Michigan and Bergstrom AFB Austin Texas. Gary retired from the Air Force in December 1986. After returning to civilian life he went to college and earned his Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Gary then worked at the Austin Bergstrom International Airport, and then the City of Austin as an accountant. He retired in 2024 after 30 years plus the 20 with the Air Force. After leaving the service he never took a vacation. He said "I've been all over the world, and I don't have the desire to see anymore.
Gary leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter Sunisa Berry Cote and husband Michael, granddaughter Sarah Berry, grandson Joseph Cote, great grandchildren Thomas and Madison Garcia. sister Carolyn "Berry" Lang, brother Glendon Berry and wife Patsy, Aunt Lavern "Marley" Gates and husband Charles, nephew Rick Broadaway and wife Tomoko great nieces Alisa "Broadaway" Takashi and Chelsea Broadaway, nephew Mark Broadaway and many other loving family members and friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his wife Somboon "Lek" Berry, daughter Louri Lyn Berry, father Clarence Berry and mother Lurlean "Marley" Berry.
