Gary Hyde, 79, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at his home in Milbank.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, 10:30 a.m. at Living Word Lutheran Church in Milbank, SD. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank and will close with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Pastor Curtis Simonson will officiate, and inurnment will be at a later date. 

The service will be livestreamed and recorded and will be viewable at the bottom of this page.

Gary Edmund Hyde was born on November 21, 1945, to Dan and Violet Stoltz in Watertown, SD. He completed his education in Castlewood, SD, graduating in 1963. He then attended South Dakota State University, where he had a successful football career with the Jackrabbits, graduating in 1968.

On November 25, 1965, Gary married Sharon Lage. They began their life together in Milbank, SD, where Gary taught and coached football for three years. He later pursued a career in the insurance industry, retiring in 2008. During their time in Milbank, they raised two children and formed numerous lasting friendships. In 2021, Gary and Sharon returned to Milbank. In retirement, Gary enjoyed being a devoted grandfather, imparting valuable lessons to his grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon of Milbank, SD; son, Todd (Seena) Hyde of Silverthorne, CO; daughter, Angela Hyde (Roger Schrader) of Sioux Falls, SD; and four grandchildren: Jordan (Ann) Konda of Sioux Falls, SD; Patrick (Lisa) Konda of Thornton, CO; Bailee (Cory) Dick of Fort Collins, CO; and Hannah Hyde and fiancé, Steve Benner of Denver, CO. He also leaves behind one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters. Additionally, Gary is survived by his sisters: Lisa (Steve) Janssen of Castlewood, SD; and Lori (Nick) Galati of Hardeeville, SC; and two brothers: Roger Hyde of Clearwater, FL; and Doug (Lois) Hyde of Castlewood, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, Daniel Stoltz, his parents: Roland and Violet Hyde of Castlewood, SD; his brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Vicki Hyde of Lake Norden, SD; and nephew, Brian Hyde.
