Gary Jensen Obituary
Gary Allen Jensen was born July 8, 1945, the son of Elmer and Estella (Prom) Jensen, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot. He was raised and educated in Voltaire. He graduated from Velva High School in 1963.
He enlisted in the United States Army National Guard's 164th Engineering Unit in 1965. He proudly served his country for six years and he was honorably discharged in 1971.
He married Karen Anderson on July 22, 1967, in Wildrose, ND. They made their home in Velva until moving to the Jensen farm a 1 ½ miles north of Voltaire.
Gary worked for O'Leary-Stock Construction and Farmers Union Oil Company for a few years before becoming a lineman for Verendrye Electric Cooperative in 1966. On June 30th, 2005, Gary retired from Verendrye Electric after 39 years with the company. He raised Charolais cattle as a side job.
His loving family includes: wife of 57 years, Karen; children, Donna Jensen, Velva, Scott (Jane Hoffman) Jensen, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Matthew Jensen, Williston, Shyanne (Tyler) Hughes, Minot, Austin Jensen, Minot; great-grandson, Krew Hughes; sister, Gail (Larry) Linrud, Velva; cousin, Cleone Jensen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Marvin (Ingrid) Jensen; grandparents, John and Edith Prom, and Jens and Laura Jensen; aunt, Bernice Feist; uncle, Oscar Jensen, and cousins.
Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Funeral: Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Tuesday at 2:30 pm at Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND.
Fellowship of bars and coffee: Tuesday at 2:30 pm at Oak Valley Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, Velva. The family will join after the graveside service.
Memorials: are preferred to Trinity Hospice.
