Gary Vaughn Obituary

Gary Russell Vaughn, 64, of Zeigler, passed away at 12:27 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2025, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Gary was born on July 3, 1960, in Herrin, Illinois to the late Harold Vaughn and Vera (Childers) Irby. Gary was born a twin with his brother, Jerry. Gary attended Zeigler-Royalton High School and Zeigler Christian Academy. He married Sharon Kay Milcic on March 21, 1997, in Zeigler.
Gary worked for the City of Zeigler for 35 years until his retirement. Even after retirement he still loved helping the town when they needed him. Gary loved taking care of the town. He attended the First Apostolic Church of Zeigler. He also was a member of the Zeigler Eagles, Zeigler Masonic Lodge, was a former Zeigler-Royalton school board member and had been City Commissioner for 2 years. Gary loved being outdoors and really enjoyed mowing grass. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and loved spending time with his family.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon Vaughn of Zeigler; son, Gary Allen (Valerie) Vaughn of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Kaleb Vaughn of Johnston City, Tessa Vaughn of Bloomington; seven siblings, Leta (Edward) Carr of Mulkeytown, Myra Day of Thompsonville, Jerry (Robyn) Vaughn of Benton, David Irby of Texas, Carl Lee (Linda) Irby of Energy, Conrad (Barbara) Irby of West Frankfort, Caryn (Mike) Humphry of West Frankfort; sister-in-law, Diane Graham, Debbie Milcic, Karen Kase, many special friends and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Vaughn and Vera Irby; brother, Robert Irby; two half siblings, Chuck Irby, Stephen Wallenmeyer; two brothers-in-law, Tom Milcic and Bob Kase.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2025, at Vantrease-Pyle Funeral Home in Zeigler with Pastor Jason Todd officiating. Masonic Rites will begin prior to the funeral hour. Burial will follow in Zeigler Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m to 1:00p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to City of Zeigler Benevolent Fund or the Zeigler Apostolic Church Youth Program. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home on the day of the service.
