Gene Simpson Hunnicutt, 81, of Smithfield, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025. He was the son of the late Walter Howard Hunnicutt and Rose Morris Hunnicutt. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Christine Price Hunnicutt and his oldest brother Walter Hunnicutt. He is survived by his wife of 5 years, Carol Ann Hunnicutt; sons, John Pressley (Susan) and Michael Hunnicutt; grandchildren, Jonathon and Shannon; and a brother, Raymond Hunnicutt (Diane); and sister in law, Nancy Hunnicutt.
Mr. Hunnicutt served four years in the US AirForce, where he was stationed many places abroad. He retired from Surry Power as an Electrical Engineer after 26 years. He was a long-time member of the Gideons. He loved to travel and visited every state except Hawaii.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, 7 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at Old Brick Church Cemetery, Bacon’s Castle, VA. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com
