Together, they created a beautiful life, purchasing an acreage northwest of Eustis in 1978. Although they did not have children, the bond they shared was a source of joy and fulfillment throughout their lives.
Following his retirement, Gene discovered a passion for woodworking, gardening, and raising sweet corn, activities through which he expressed his creativity and love for nature. He often shared the fruits of his labor with family and friends, brightening their lives with the bounty of his gardens.
Gene was the beloved son of George and Frieda (Schaaf) Roether, both of whom have preceded him in death, along with his brother Glenn, who tragically passed away by drowning in 1958, and his sister Georgia in 2023.
Gene is survived by his wife Marlene; sisters, Gloria Roether and Glenda (Roger) Neill all of Cozad; his brother-in-law, Duane (Betsy) Onken of Aurora; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends whose lives he touched profoundly, and his faithful furbaby Charlie.
