Dr. Geoffrey Fitzgerald of Durham, NH died May 18, 2025 at the age of 93. He was surrounded by his family at Riverwoods Durham.
He was born August 30, 1931 in Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Son of Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Fitzgerald (née Josephine Fitzpatrick). He developed a love for golf as a small boy in Ireland, and had a total of four holes-in-one and a handicap of 5 at one point. He also played rugby in school, including at University College Dublin.
Geoff graduated from UCD Medical School, Dublin, Ireland, followed by pathology residencies at Georgetown, Washington D.C, Memorial Sloan Kettering, New York, and Hammersmith Hospital in London, England. He began his career with pathology groups in Virginia and Long Island. However, the bulk of his career was spent in Southeast New Hampshire, including Portsmouth, Dover and Rochester.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Elizabeth (Betty), sons; Dr. Geoffrey M. Fitzgerald (Danielle Bergeron) of Hopkinton, NH, Kevin P. Fitzgerald (Jennifer Johns) of State College, PA and Peter D. Fitzgerald (Maryanne Dadey) of Syracuse, NY as well as brother, David Fitzgerald (Moira) of Limerick Ireland. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Ameila, Garrett, Anthony, Erin, Shane, Matthew, Annie and Nora. He was preceded in death by his sister, Angela Huggard (Noel) and brother, Dr. Colman (Dr. Bridget “Biddy”) Fitzgerald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, June 7th at St. Thomas More, 6 Madbury Rd., Durham, NH. Family and friends may call at the church starting at 10:15AM.
Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Hampton.
