Georgann Tompkins Obituary

Georgann Vandenberg Tompkins, 92, of Munroe Falls, Ohio, died June 6, 2025. She was born October 25, 1932 in Wichita, Kansas.

She was a depression baby and grew up in Wichita, Kansas with her parents Maxine Selena Adams of Ponca City, Oklahoma and George Harold Vandenberg of Wichita, Kansas. She attended grade school and went on to graduate from North High School. She spent summers with her extended family in Spar City Colorado, a privately owned community. In 1952 she received an Associate Degree from Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri, and in 1954, her Bachelor Degree in English from Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas. Later, she received a Master in Business Administration at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. In 1974, she was employed at Rockwell International.

She was a proud member and was honored to be part of the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma, originally located in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, area before President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830. She is a direct descendant of lsaac Zane and Princess Myeerah of Zanesfield, Ohio.

She was an Air Force wife and in 1955 was stationed in Anchorage Alaska during the Korean War.

She was a proud member of All Saints Episcopal Church and School, Phoenix, Arizona, where she was Legacy Circle Member, involved in Bell Choir, and founding family involved in the start of the school. In 1969, her daughter was the first graduating class and her son was the first to graduate by finishing K-8th grade. In retirement, Georgann continued to be a supporter of both church and school.

She was active in various organizations: P.E.O. Chapter DO Hudson, Ohio, a 73 year member of Pi Phi Sorority KU Chapter Alpha 1952 where she also served as Club President from 1963-1965, Golden Girls Phoenix Chapter and K.I.S. Book Club which she started. She was in the Paradise Valley Garden Club, volunteer docent at Phoenix Art Museum, Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, American Lung Association, Kansas University Alumni Club and Travel Club. She received multiple recognitions for her work in the Republican Party including her work on Barry Goldwater's presidential campaign. She supported The Little Red School House Historical Society of Coeymans Hollow.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen James Tompkins; her son, Jack Vann Byrd; and grandson, Joshua Michael Byrd, all from Arizona.

She is survived by daughter, Ann Byrd Brown of Ohio; granddaughters, Rachel Ann Seabase (Anthony) Decatur, Georgia, and Elizabeth Michelle Brown of Scottsdale Arizona; two great grandchildren, Brandon and Kourtney; and her sister, Jane Vandenberg Crowell (Hillis) and family.

A Memorial Service is scheduled to be held at All Saints Episcopal Church (6300 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012) on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 10am.

Private Interment will be in the Coeymans Hollow Cemetery, Coeymans Hollow, New York.
