George Carter Obituary

Mr. George T. "Bud" Carter, 88, of Newnan, GA passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2025, peacefully
at home. He was born April 15, 1937 in Senoia, GA to the late Thomas Thornton Carter and
Louise Stubbs Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Lucy
Sewell, Jack Carter, Bill Carter, Opal Thompson, Jean Cook, Joanne LaRocca, Martha
Barronton, and Richard Carter. He was also preceded in death by his baby daughter Melanie
Leigh.
As the fifth-born of eleven children, George grew up in Coweta County where his family ran a
dairy farm. He was a 1956 graduate of East Coweta High School and served 3 years in the
National Guard. He worked for Georgia Power Company for 35 years and then drove a school
bus in Coweta County for 7 years. More importantly, he was married to his wife, Charlene, for
67 years and they faithfully served the Lord together. He was a member of East Newnan Baptist
Church. He would want to give God the glory for blessing him with family and friends who loved
him dearly and whom he dearly loved. He was a faithful servant and was ready to be with the
Lord.
The funeral is Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at McKoon Funeral Home, 38
Jackson Street, Newnan, Georgia, with Danny Wilson officiating. Visitation is at 1:00 pm before
the funeral service. Burial will follow at Turin Baptist Church Cemetery, 29 Church Street, Turin,
Georgia.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Carter; son, Greg Carter & wife Tessie; daughter, Danna Sheppard & husband Chuck; sisters, Sandra Cavender & husband Pete, Lynn Wilson & husband Danny; grandchildren, Ryan Carter, Kyle Carter, Taylor Sheppard, Cody Sheppard & wife Alex, Charlie Sheppard & wife Jackie, Summer Garriga & husband Jeremy, Sadie Sheppard; great-grandchildren, Walter Sheppard, Winnie Sheppard, Sherwood Sheppard, Colette Garriga.
