George Richard Heavilin, 84, of Beech Grove, passed away peacefully of Parkinson's Disease on July 24, 2025 at his home on Ash Street. He was born on July 6, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late George Elmer and Barbara Davis Heavilin.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He earned his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. He graduated from Brownsburg HS in 1959. He retired from Citizens Gas and Coke.

He was a member of the American Legion in Avon. He was also a member of the Central Indiana Folk Music and Mountain Dulcimer Society.

George had over 5000 hours of volunteer work with the Indianapolis Children's Museum and was also a musician with the band, White Lick Creek Boys.

He is survived by his son, George "Andy" Heavilin; 3 grandchildren; brothers, Glen Heavilin, David Heavilin, and Albert Heavilin; sisters, Sara Barker, Jane Black and Ruth Blair.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Heavilin.

Memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the memorial service time at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 16, 2025 at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana 46143.
