George Wilbur Henderson, a longtime resident of Olmsted, Illinois, passed away at the age of eighty-seven on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah, KY. George was born on January 18, 1938, to Lee and Jessie Lee (Cooper) Henderson in Levings, IL, now Olmsted, IL. George attended Washington Grade School, a two-room segregated school where Mrs. Rosetta O'Neal was principle. As an adult, he was employed at Wholesale Tools in Warren, MI. He served in the United States Air Force from April of 1955 to December of 1956 where he received training as a utility's helper. After leaving the military, George eventually moved to Joliet, IL, where he was employed by the Joliet Housing Authority. There, he rose to the position of Site Supervisor over two housing sites. In 1996, George retired and moved back to Olmsted where he lived until his recent passing. George was preceded in death by both parents; two former wives, Lula-Merle and Pearl; one son, Little George; and five siblings, Lola Stovall (2014), Joseph, Levi, and Minnie Williams-Cheney (2019), and Elbert Louis (2025) George leaves to cherish his memories: his one brother, Freddy Lee (Cindy); two sisters, Jessie Kimmins and Mildred Henderson, all of Olmsted; special nephew, Anthony Kimmins; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Services for Mr. George W. Henderson will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11:30 A.M. at Massie Funeral Home. Visitation will begin prior to the service starting at 10:30 A.M. Life Celebration Service will begin at 11:30 A.M. with Pastor Ronnie Woods Officiating. The Final Resting place will be in the Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, IL following the service.
