George D Maroder, our cherished patriarch, passed away on April 7, 2025 at the age of 96, in McHenry, IL. Born February 21, 1929 in Chicago, IL, George was a man of integrity and kindness, and lived a life committed to the well-being of others. George served the City of Chicago Fire Department as a firefighter/engineer for 32 years, and the State of Illinois for 24+ years as a firefighter/safety manager for the Read Developmental Center in Chicago.
On June 25, 1949, George married the love of his life Joan (Kerrigan), and together they built a life filled with joy and lasting memories until her passing in 2003. George's legacy is carried on by his adoring family, including his children Susan Letts, Jill (Woody) Powers, Jody (Steve) Kalck, and Tim (Patty) Maroder. He was a proud grandfather to Tammie, Kim, Woody (Shelly), Shawn (Lisa), Jamie (Aaron), Mike (Jennifer), Steve (Nicky), Kristen, Megan (Chris), Kate, and Tim (Brooke). His life lessons and stories will be passed on to his 14 great-grandchildren (with one on the way) and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, George leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom he loved deeply.
Though he has joined his beloved wife Joan, his son-in-law Jim, his parents George and Sophie, and his brother Ray in eternal rest, the impact of George's life will continue to resonate with those who had the privilege of knowing him. His was a heart that beat for his family, a soul that found joy in the simple pleasures of life, and a spirit that never wavered in his commitment to others. His was a life well lived.
