George McNeel Obituary

George "Tom" Thomas McNeel, 86, of Colonial Beach, VA passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born on August 3, 1938 in Spice, West Virginia, to Jessie Beatrice (Mayhew) and George Earl McNeel.
After graduating high school, Tom moved to Washington, DC to pursue a job with the FBI, and later joined the United States Coast Guard. After his time in the Service, he became a career truck driver for Giant Food, retiring after 29 years of dedicated service. He earned several awards from Giant for his safe driving abilities.
Tom was a member of the American Legion in Hughesville, MD. He loved Bluegrass and Classic Country music. He could naturally play many instruments, but the guitar was his favorite. He participated in many truck driving championships on the state and national levels. He won the Maryland State 4 Axle Championship. He also drove in stockcar races. He enjoyed camping and traveling in his RV. He took great pride in watching and supporting his granddaughter Karlee participate in horse competitions. He was quick witted and loved life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, children, and grandchildren. He loved his five fur babies Roscoe, Scooter, Angel, Max, and his special girl Bella.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his son, Thomas Anthony McNeel; and his sisters; Jean Crain, Judy Lacey, and Annette Marsh.
George is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruby (Evans) McNeel, and their blended family; William "Will" Schroth, II and his daughter Karlee, Donna "Shelly" Joseph and her husband Erold, Tammy Potter and her significant other Santiago, and Lisa Bopp and her husband Daniel; along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother in-law, Harold Crain; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special neighbors, friends and caregivers; Daryl and Linda Carpenter, who Ruby couldn't have done it without their help.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 10:00 AM until time of Service at 12:00 PM at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation in Tom's name are asked to At Home Care and Hospice, 1121 Heatherstone Drive, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
