It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of George Bernard Peters Jr., who departed from this world on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the age of 87. George was a beloved resident of West Hartford, Connecticut, whose life journey began in Mount Vernon, New York, on June 4, 1938.
A devoted husband and father, George is survived by his cherished wife Joanne and his son George B. Peters III, affectionately known as "Josh," along with Josh's wife Yuko Takeda, as well as his nieces, cousins and many friends around the world. He is predeceased by his parents, George Bernard Peters Sr. and Bernice Muzetta Peters and his sister Judith Sliwinski.
George's professional life was marked by his dedication to investments with The Travelers, where he made significant contributions. His disciplined work ethic was honed during his service with the United States Army in the Everglades tasked with listening to radio communications between the Russians and Cubans. Later in his career, he lived in Japan where he exchanged business practices with his counterparts at Nippon Life Insurance.
George found joy and fulfillment in his personal interests. He was an avid reader of historical fiction, enjoyed bowling and traveling in the Western US. He and Joanne lived in Arizona for 11 years and the West holds a special place in their family history. He held a deep affection for the peace and open space at their getaway near Yellowstone in Montana, where he could often be found fly fishing along the Madison River.
Family, friends, and those whose lives were touched by George are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at St. Peter Claver Church Hall in West Hartford, Connecticut. Following the visitation, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Peter Claver Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the West Hartford Food Bank, care of the Town that Cares, at 50 South Main St. Room 130, West Hartford, CT 06107.
The Peters family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the support, prayers, and expressions of sympathy during this difficult time. Arrangements are being handled by Molloy Funeral Home. Directions and online condolences may be shared at www.molloyfuneralhome.com
George's life was a canvas of love, adventure, and service. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
