Chesterfield, SC - Mr. George Reid Kennedy, age 87, entered into rest on Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his beloved wife. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2025 at St. Paul United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Alisha Hansen. The family will greet friends from 12:00 - 1:00 PM Saturday, prior to the service in the St. Paul UMC Fellowship Hall.
Mr. Kennedy was born on September 2, 1937, in Kings Mountain, NC, to the late John Edgar and Alice Joseph Kennedy. He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School, where he proudly served as co-captain of the football team. Mr. Kennedy had a distinguished career, retiring from Ford Motor Company Distribution after over 27 years, and was also a former employee of Takata Industries in Cheraw, SC.
A faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Mr. Kennedy served as a Trustee. He had a passion for NASCAR racing and valued his friendship with driver Jeremy Vanderhoof. He was also a loyal fan of the USC Gamecocks and took great pride in maintaining an immaculate lawn.
Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brenda R. Kennedy; his children, Kevin (Carolyn) Kennedy of Simpsonville, SC, John Kennedy of NC, Michael Kennedy of Winston Salem, NC, and Judith Kennedy of High Point, NC; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; as well as siblings Carolyn Stewart of Burlington, NC, Steve “Bub” (Teena) Kennedy of League City, TX, Dianne Steele of Chesterfield, VA, Jack (Phyllis) Kennedy of Charlotte, NC, and June Faulk of Charlotte, NC. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews and his devoted four-legged companion, Eloise.
The family expresses their gratitude to nurse April Carter and the entire staff of Agape Hospice for their exceptional care and support during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 305 W Main Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709, or to Agape Hospice, 309 E. Main Street, Bennettsville, SC 29512.
