It is with our heartfelt condolences the administration and staff of Whipple and Allen Funeral Home Inc. announce the passing of Mr. George Smith, of Irwinton GA. Mr. Smith Services will be held Saturday January 18, 2025,12:00 pm at Jordon Stream Baptist Church at 17150 GA-112. Public visitation will be on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 12:00pm- 6:00 pm. The funeral procession will leave the residence of Rev. James Smith Jr. at 575 MLK Jr. Rd. Irwinton GA, at 11:30 am
George Smith was born on May 27, 1955, in Toomsboro, Ga. to the late James B. Smith, Sr. and Arlene Whipple Smith.
At an early age, George joined Jordan Stream Baptist Church in Toomsboro, Ga. As he began his adult journey, he developed his personal relationship with God. He received his education in Wilkinson County at Calhoun Consolidated School. George started working at an early age for Mason Logging Company, later relocating to Atlanta, where KAR Printing Company employed him until his health began to decline.
On Sunday morning, January 12, 2025, George departed from Earth and entered eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his wife Gwendolyn Smith, daughter Barbara Smith-Wise, son Kenneth Coates, parents James and Arlene Smith, Sr., sister Virginia Smith Bass, and brother Cecil Smith.
George leaves to Cherish his memories children: Micheal Mitchell, Tangela (Tony) Mitchell-Ross, and Derrick (Nashalle) Hood all of Atlanta, Ga, and Trina Hood of Alabama. Three brothers Rev. James B Smith, Jr, and Jimmy Smith of Irwinton, GA., and Harold (Shirley) Smith of Dublin, GA. Five sisters Cathalene Lawrence of Irwinton, GA., Betty Cummings of Union City, Ga., Martha Beal of Ellenwood, Ga., Zenobia Smith of Macon, Ga., and Leslie Oakes of Bessemer, Ala. Two surviving aunts Lily Lowther of Dublin, GA, and Doris Scott of Saint Petersburg, FL, and one surviving uncle Joseph Whipple of Toomsboro, GA. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends including his special friend Helen Williams of Irwinton, Ga.
