George H. Williams, 85 of Zanesville, died 1:55 AM, Sunday, July 13, 2025, at The Oaks at Bethesda, surrounded by his family. He was born Wednesday, March 20, 1940, in Zanesville, the son of Chester Williams, Sr. and Henrietta (Dalton) Williams, the youngest of ten children. He married Darlene (Kennedy) Williams on Tuesday, November 21, 1961, and was a very active member of Wings of Hope Tabernacle.
George was employed with Columbia Cement and Laborers International Union # 423. He loved the outdoors, especially his back porch and feeding the birds. He enjoyed going to the county fairs, the harness races, and working with the horses. George was a loving and caring family man who cherished the time he spent with his family, his brothers and sisters and his love and commitment to the Zanesville community.
George is survived by his wife, Darlene; three children, Carmen (Kevin) Tate of Whitehall, Diane Mayle of Belpre and Scott Williams of Zanesville; four grandchildren, Jeremy Tate, Bryant Tate, Chloe Williams and Brody Williams; one great grandson, Ian Tate; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Darwin Mayle, Jr.; nine siblings, Roy Williams, Earl Williams, Russell Williams, Chester "Sonny" Williams, Jr., Henry Williams, James Williams, Helen Adams, Edna Portis and Dorothy Tabler.
Friends may call 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Wings of Hope Tabernacle, 709 Lee Street, Zanesville with Rev. James Workmen officiating. Visitation will also be held from 12 Noon to time of service on Thursday. Burial will be 12 noon, Saturday, July 19, 2025, in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
