Lifelong Akron resident, Geraldine “Gerrie” (Haas) Wood passed away October 29, 2025, at the age of 79. She was born on March 17, 1946, to her late parents, Charles and Wanda (Taylor) Haas.
A St. Patrick’s Day baby, Gerrie, as she was known to all, for some reason, did not care for the color green associated with the day. She was one of five children blessing the Haas family and was raised in a household that held faith, love, and support in high regards. Gerrie was a 1964 graduate of Springfield High School and later worked there for 33 years as the cafeteria manager. She enjoyed shopping and making many memories with family and friends. She had a smile that showed her heart, revealing her sincerity, openness and kindness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Michael; daughters, Lisa Zuschin (Mike) and Sherrie Mayle (Don); grandchildren, Amanda and Sarah Zuschin (Riley), Ryan Mayle; great-grandchildren, Leif and Leia Mayle; sisters, Barbara Parks, Linda Thayer (Gary); and brother, Mark Haas (Missy). Gerrie was an excellent wife, great mother, tremendous grandmother, a true sister, the kind everyone would want, and a great friend. She will be missed immensely.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Hecker-Patron Funeral Home, Uniontown. The service will follow at the funeral home at 1:00 PM with Father Zachary Kawalec presiding. Interment will take place at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens, North Canton.
The family extends a special thank you to Crossroads Hospice (Brenda) and sister-in-law, Vicki Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killiam Hill Road, SW, Lilburn, Georgia 30047; or at [email protected]; or by contacting 404-935-6444.
