In Loving Memory of Giovanni "Gio" Ospina
October 28, 1990 - July 9, 2025
Giovanni Ospina, affectionately known as "Gio," passed away on July 9, 2025, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was 34 years old.
Born on October 28, 1990, in Paterson, New Jersey, Gio was the beloved son of John Ospina and Nancy Bohannon. He was a bright light in the lives of those who knew him - known for his quick wit, generous heart, and an unshakable devotion to the people he loved.
Gio's greatest joy in life was being a father. He leaves behind two cherished daughters, Natalie Grubb and Anaiah Ospina, who were the center of his world. He is also survived by his mother, Nancy Bohannon; father and stepmother, John and Kelly Ospina; his girlfriend, Destini Hamilton; and his siblings: sister, Carolina Elfeky and her husband, Hany and his brother, Emmanuel Ospina. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Alex Jordan, Alyssa Braswell, and Aysha Elfeky.
Also mourning his loss are his maternal grandparents, Eva and Carlos Saldarriaga; his paternal grandmother, Teresa Salgado; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Wesley Bohannon, whose influence remained important in his life.
In his younger years, Gio found freedom and fun in skateboarding and soccer - hobbies that reflected his energy and love for movement. But above all, he treasured time spent with his daughters and his family. He was protective, caring, and full of laughter - the kind of person who could brighten a room with his presence and make everyone feel at home.
Gio's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
