Glenn Louis White passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Arden, North Carolina, on April 19, 1948, to John W. White and Eleanor E. Schwinke, Glenn's life was marked by devotion-to family, to service, to friendship, and to the simple joys that made life meaningful.
As a young boy, Glenn moved with his family to Chicago, Illinois, where he would plant his roots and meet the love of his life. It was at Luther North High School, during his freshman year, that he began dating his future wife, Susan-a bond that would grow into a marriage of nearly 50 years. Glenn and his beloved were married on November 15, 1975, and together they built a life of love, laughter, and shared purpose.
A proud graduate of Northeastern Illinois University, Glenn earned a Bachelor of Science degree before embarking on a 27-year career with the Chicago Police Department. Rising to the rank of Sergeant, Glenn served with courage and integrity, often working undercover and always protecting his community with quiet strength. Though his work was serious, his humor never left him-he was known for answering the home phone with a cheery "White House" and referring to his wife, affectionately, as "the Warden."
After retiring, Glenn found it hard to sit still. He spent five more years working at the Mississippi Palisades Park cutting grass and swapping stories, making friends as effortlessly as he always had. In 2000, he and his wife built their forever home on Messmer Road in Savanna, Illinois, where they embraced the peaceful rhythm of life near the Mississippi.
Glenn was a lifelong outdoorsman. He found joy in bird hunting, shooting clays, and time spent at the Mississippi Flyway Sportsman Club. A faithful supporter of causes close to his heart, he generously gave to organizations like Pheasants Forever, Carroll County Longspurs, and the VFW. Though not a veteran himself, he honored those who served with deep respect.
Animals held a special place in Glenn's heart, and his home was always warm with the presence of dogs. In recent years, his loyal little dog Chuck rarely left his side.
Glenn will be remembered most for his loyalty, kindness, and unwavering friendship. His quick wit, generous spirit, and gentle strength left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Eleanor; his sisters, Doreen White and Charlene Duroni; his in-laws, Martin and Loretta Hoekstra; and many cherished friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife Susan, his devoted dog Chuck, numerous nieces and nephews, sister-in-laws Carolyn Bertagnoli and Lora Lee Hinton, brother-in-law Charles Duroni, and many dear friends and loved ones.
Glenn's legacy is one of steady devotion, heartfelt humor, and a life lived with quiet dignity. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
