Gloria Maria Bartels (née Kraus)
Died peacefully on January 31, 2025 with her beloved son and daughter by her side. Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Heinrich (Heinz); daughter, Angela Renée; and brothers, Elwood Kraus, Gus Kraus, and Donald Kraus. Gloria will be deeply missed by her son, Christopher (Anne), daughter Nancy (Jim) Dickinson, and six grandchildren, Jakob (Madeline), Emma, Katia, Elena, Samuel and William. Gloria was born and raised on a farm in Fingal, North Dakota. She graduated from Saint Catherine University with a degree in English Literature and taught elementary school. While living in Saint Paul with her parents, she met the love of her life, an exchange student at Hamline University from Germany who left two weeks later to go back to Germany. One year later, he accepted a job in São Paulo, Brazil. After corresponding by mail for more than a year, Heinz proposed to Gloria in a letter. She bought a wedding dress and a one-way ticket to Brazil where they married. They returned to start a family in Minnesota. Gloria's unwavering smile brightened every room. She was a beautiful, faith-filled and calming presence who epitomized selflessness. Gloria made you feel like you were the only person in the room. She was a voracious reader with a deep curiosity about the world. But most of all, she loved her family. Family was everything.
