Gloria Ann (Hagen) Lies, 84, passed away on May 24, 2025, at the Benedictine Living Community in Garrison.
Funeral Services will take place on June 2, 2025, at 11:00 am, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Douglas, ND.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 4-5:30 pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 5:30 pm.
Burial will take place at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Douglas, following the funeral service. The family invites everyone to join them for lunch and fellowship following the burial, at the Douglas Senior Center.
Gloria Ann Hagen was born on April 7, 1941, to Henry and Inger (Jensen) Hagen, the oldest of eight children. She was raised in rural Ryder. She attended country school until the eighth grade, then Douglas High School where she graduated as Valedictorian in 1959.
She was united in marriage to Daniel H. Lies, on Monday, November 16, 1959, in the middle of a snowstorm. They made their home on the Lies family farm and welcomed three children, Dori, Daniel, and Daryl. Gloria was a caregiver at heart which led her and Dan to foster twenty-one children over the years. Together, they farmed and raised hogs. She also worked for McLean County Social Services as a Home Health Aide, for 37 years.
Being the first-born child, Gloria was a natural born leader and teacher. She was a 4-H leader with the Douglas Astronauts for many years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Ladies aid and assisted in making a number of mission quilts sent to World Relief and for High School graduates from the area. She was a member of the Peacemakers Quilt Guild in Garrison in her later years.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, teaching them the art of sewing, baking, canning, and tackling about any art/craft project requested, just to name a few.
Gloria had a love for sewing/quilting and avidly enjoyed collecting fabric to craft beautiful master pieces, in her free time.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dan; children, Dori (Gord), Danny (Annie) and Daryl (Kim), all of Douglas; grandchildren, Sarah (Kevin), Adam (Krystal), Luke (Lacey), Cody (Savannah), Samantha (Skylar), and Amber (Reed); great-grandchildren, Cooper, Marlee, Emma, Kash, Harper, Sawyer, Liam, Sadie, Ciarra, Blake, Madison, Stella, Sharlotte, Saige, and Evelyn; sisters, Helen Ostby, Phyllis (Howard) Lies, Sylvia Garcia; brothers, Elden (Cindy) Hagen and Wade (Tammy) Hagen; sister-in-laws, Janet Hagen, and Donna Lies; brothers-in-law, Pete (Joy) Lies, Howard (Phyllis) Lies, Bernard "Nip" Lies; friend & nursing home roommate Rita King; and several cousins & friends.
