Gordon Lester Mann, Jr. 90, of Durham passed away on April 22, 2025, at home with his wife by his side. Mr. Mann was born on February 12, 1935, in Durham, NC to the late Gordon Lester Mann, Sr. and Rachel Howell Mann.
Mr. Mann survived by his wife of over 70 years, Katherine Rudd Mann; son, David Earl Mann and wife Martha of Columbus, Mississippi and Lester Wayne Mann and wife Cindy of Roxboro, NC; brother Freeland Ned Mann of West Virginia.
Gordon proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for 12 years, demonstrating his deep commitment to his country. A man of strong faith, he was a longtime member and Choir Director at First Assembly of God, where he shared his love for music and community.
In his early career, Gordon worked as a truck driver before joining IBM, where he spent several years in the warehouse department. Later, he continued his hard-working spirit at Wal-Mart until his retirement.
Outside of work, Gordon found joy in deep sea fishing and had a passion for car racing.
A graveside service will be held Friday April 25, 2025, at 1 p.m. Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Officiating will be Reverend Greg Allison.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gordon’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Diane Cook and Transitions Hospice for their loving and compassionate care during Gordon’s illness.
