Gregory Lee Montgomery, 74, passed on March 7, 2025 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center, while comforted by his two surviving sons.
Greg was born on June 20, 1950 in Danville Illinois to Thelma (Ranger) and Charles Montgomery. Greg had a brother, Danny, and together they enjoyed many adventures and memories that Greg cherished.
In his late teens, Greg met his first wife, Cheryl, to whom he was married for 18 years and together they had two children, Jeffory Montgomery and Eric Montgomery.
Greg enlisted in the US Marine Corps as early as he could and soon after was frontline for the war in Vietnam. Greg had immense pride and honor in the time and sacrifices he made for his country. It was a rare occurrence that Greg would speak of his time in Vietnam, but when he did it was never to brag or boast but to honor the men he served with. Semper Fi.
After returning home from the war, Greg worked construction for a period before he began his 30 year career with General Motors. He started his career in Danville, IL before the untimely closure of that facility. Following the closure, Greg moved to West Monroe, LA where he continued his career until retirement.
Before moving from Illinois to Louisiana, Greg met Mary Ann with whom he had his youngest son, Trevor Montgomery (Alyssa) and later two grandchildren Macon and Nash.
After moving to Louisiana, Greg made new friends and loved the warm climate. Of the friends he met in Louisiana, he shared a special bond with the Stodghill family who lived nearby. More than neighbors, they were like family.
Greg enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, watching football and westerns, and collecting different things, but most of all spending time with those closest to him. Greg was a mountain of a man with a stern look, but behind that was a man with the best jokes, witty comebacks and a huge heart. In recent years, Eric assisted Greg with life, and together they shared countless laughs and memories.
Greg was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Danny; and oldest son, Jeffory.
Greg is survived by his son, Eric and son, Trevor (Alyssa), and two grandsons Macon, and Nash.
There are no plans for visitation or funeral at this time, but military honors are planned to take place in the future.
