Gregory Klare Rogers, Sr. of Nichols, New York
Gregory Klare Rogers, Sr., affectionately known as Greg to friends and Papa to his cherished family, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at Absolut Care in Endicott, New York. Born at home in Owego, New York, on July 2, 1947, Greg's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and dedication to those he held dear.
Greg's journey began as a son to James and Neva (Marshall) Rogers, and he grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. He was the rock and foundation for his beloved wife, Martha whom he married on June 11, 1966, and together they built a life filled with joy and the laughter of children. His legacy continued to blossom with his children Ronald Rogers, Gregory Rogers, Jr., Amanda (Mark) Rogers, Nicole (Gary) Whitmore, his son in law Daniel Deretz and his adored grandchildren Nate (Danielle) Rogers, Sarah (Mike) Baratta, Angela Rogers, Brooke Rogers, Colt Herrala, Casey Herrala, Adeline Whitmore, Zander Whitmore, Erica (Andrew) Deretz, Rebecka Deretz (Chad Jump) and Erik Deretz (Shelby Barrett). The joy of his life multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren Madelyn, Mackenzie, McKenna, Marshall, Isabella, Gavin, Easton, Elliana, Landon, Taylor, Charles, Henry, Benton, Aubrey, Sayge, Emmett, Eli, and Evan.
Greg's siblings, Danny Rogers, Harvey "Paul" (Mary) Rogers, Richard Rogers, Jack (Lorrie) Rogers, and Marguerite "Peggy" (Elmer) Talcott, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, will hold his memory close to their hearts. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Katherine Deretz, and his siblings Frank Rogers, Sandra Cosgrove, Roy Rogers, Judy Likashuk, Pat Biller, Barbara Lupole, and James Rogers.
A dedicated plumber, Greg served the community through Martin Plumbing and Heating for over 20 years. His strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand were hallmarks of his character. Greg was known for his loving nature, kindness, and being incredibly handy - traits that endeared him to many.
Greg's interests were simple yet profound. He carried a smile that could light up a room and had a great sense of humor that never failed to bring joy to those around him. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He believed in the enduring power of love and the strength of family ties.
As we remember Greg, we reflect on the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Greg's spirit and love have indeed become a part of us, a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, August 16th from 10 – 12 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
