Gretchen Ruth Kienitz, 94, of Marinette, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was born January 10, 1931 in Marinette to Walter and Meta Jasch. Gretchen was a graduate of Marinette High School and a lifelong Marinette resident. She married David Kienitz in June of 1951 and was a devoted wife and mother to her family. David preceded her in death on November 28, 1994.
Gretchen was a longtime member of First Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Mary Martha Society. She worked for many years at the former Malmstadt's Supermarket on Elizabeth Ave. and was a familiar presence to their many customers. Gretchen was also an avid knitter and a dedicated fan of Wisconsin sports.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann "Rudi" (Rick) Schwartz of Florence, AZ; two grandsons, Chad (Lynn) Schwartz and Corey (Elaine) Schwartz; great-grandchildren, Christina, Michaela, Audrey, Jacob, Kamryn, Brett and Kelli; a great-great-grandson, Keegan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Nik; and two sisters, Dorothy Brooks and Ruth Marquardt.
Funeral services will be held at First Trinity Lutheran Church, Wells St. at Grant in Marinette at 12 noon on Thursday, January 30th. The Rev. Christian Eisenbeis will officiate. Friends may greet and visit with the family at a luncheon following the service in the Parish Hall. Entombment will be in Forest Home Mausoleum.
