Gwin Durfey Buffington passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on August 2, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born on January 31, 1935, in Canton, Mississippi, the daughter of Dr. Allan Percy Durfey and Julia Alice Clower Durfey. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, amazing grandmother, adoring Great Grandmother, and beloved sister.

Her family, faith and friends were the centerpieces of her life from the beginning to the very end. Even though she was quiet and mild mannered, Gwin was fiercely loyal and strongly opinionated when it came to the people closest to her. She was an engaging storyteller who could recount every detail bringing the memories she was sharing back to life for those around her. Anyone who ever met her came away feeling the love and grace that constantly emanated from her, a true reflection of God's love on this earth.

Gwin grew up in Canton and made friends that lasted a lifetime. She graduated from Canton High School in 1953 and went to college at the University of Mississippi where she pledged Phi Mu Sorority. She married Phillip Buffington on March 4, 1956 and moved to Starkville where she graduated with a degree in Education from Mississippi State University.

After completing their degrees, Gwin and Phillip briefly moved to Florence, Alabama before moving back to Canton to be closer to their families, and she would remain in Canton for the rest of her life. She worked in her family's medical clinic for many years before retiring in 2000 to be a full-time grandparent, which filled her with immense joy. On many occasions, she would have her grandchildren, and their friends spend the night in Canton. All the people whose lives she touched remained close to her.

She always made sure to make it to every sporting event for her grandchildren regardless of the time or location. She was their biggest fan and always loved telling them how well they did after every game.

Her faith in Jesus Christ was at the center of her life which led her to be an active and faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church. She served on the Altar Guild and was involved with numerous other ministries. She was also involved in her community outside of the church with groups like the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, with Al-Anon featuring a prominent role in her life in her later years. She was a member of the Canton AFG group for over 27 years and was a very loving and supportive member who shared her love and strength with all their members.

She is survived by her son, Phil Buffington (Sarah). Grandchildren: Dustin Ford, Phillip Buffington (Lauren), Avery Truitt (Matt), and Will Buffington (Kathryn). Her Great Grandchildren: Rhodes Truitt, Garner Truitt, Sally Parkes Truitt, Scott Buffington and Callie Buffington. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Percy Durfey (Marion), nieces, Melissa Keck (Herb), Alan Durfey (Suzanne) and Rosemary Durfey (Karl) and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Buffington, her husband, and Sharon Buffington Ford, her daughter.

Her life will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Grace Episcopal Church, with a visitation at 10:00 am and the Service will begin at 11:00 with a graveside service to follow at Canton Cemetery.

There will also be a visitation on Monday, August 4 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Grace Episcopal.
