H. Eugene Hollick, 91, of Hesston, PA, previously of Bainbridge, PA passed away on January 15, 2025.
Gene was born on February 4, 1933, to William Harris Hollick and Edna B. Freeland Hollick in Jersey Shore, PA.
After Gene graduated from Jersey Shore High School in 1951, he went on to study Physical Science at Lock Haven University. He then went on to receive his master's degree in educational administration from Penn State University, and to complete his doctoral coursework at Temple University.
Gene was married to Deborah Ewing on April 7, 1979. They enjoyed almost 46 years of marriage together. They loved boating at Raystown lake, cruising anywhere, serving their church and community, and spending time with family and friends.
He had enormous compassion for those less fortunate. He spent many years working with various organizations to make low-income housing accessible to those in need. He developed instructional strategies to provide different opportunities for those who struggled with learning in the traditional manner. He sponsored children through Compassion and made several trips with Debbie to visit those children in Honduras.
Gene was a life-long learner who was always eager to learn about the newest technology and science advancements. He was passionate about education and began teaching physics but quickly moved into 25 years of public-school administration, ending with many years as the Assistant Superintendent of Norristown School District. He was on the leading edge of computer technology and spent 13 years teaching educators how to integrate technology into instruction. He founded Word Enterprises in 1988, a small software company that served private schools and churches with administrative software. In 2001, Elexio was the newest iteration of Word Enterprises and again, Gene was on the cutting edge of technology, alongside his son Darren and their partners as they created software again to serve churches and schools, at the forefront of website development communication.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Belmon, Calvin, James, and his sister Caroline, as well as his great grandson Jevon Crum- Ewing Jr. He is survived by his daughter Tammy (Peter) Logan of Bainbridge, his son Darren (Beth) Hollick of Lancaster, his grandchildren Tanyan (Sean) Carnes, Jennifer Crum-Ewing, Peter (Tara) Logan, Ian Hollick, Mackenzie Hollick, his great grandchildren Annalyse Crum-Ewing, Blake Logan, Brandon Carnes, Desiree Carnes, David Carnes, and his great-great granddaughter Mylah Pincin, and many nieces and nephews.
