Hannah Charlene Norcross, 69, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, in Salem, New Hampshire, after a brave battle with cancer. Born on October 31, 1955, in Weirton, West Virginia, Hannah's life was marked by deep compassion, vibrant connections, and an unwavering dedication to the people around her. Raised in Fairfax, Virginia, her path through life was anything but conventional-rich with curiosity, community, and a strong independent spirit. She spent formative years living on a commune, embracing its ideals of unity and shared purpose, values she carried with her throughout her life. Hannah eventually made Atlanta her home, where her warmth and openness drew people to her from all walks of life. Her career was as diverse as her friendships: she worked in construction, served as an EMT, managed a data center, worked in healthcare administration, and even spent time as a truck driver. For the final 15 years of her professional life, she found a home at Southern Link Companies in accounting, where she
not only brought dedication to her work but also built close and lasting friendships. She retired in 2024. To those who knew her, Hannah was more than a friend-she was a steady presence through life's ups and downs, a listening ear, a guiding voice, and someone who never let anyone feel invisible. Her chosen family extended far beyond bloodlines, made up of the countless lives she touched with genuine kindness and empathy. Hannah found joy in the simple pleasures of life: sharing stories at the bar with friends,
striking up conversations with strangers, diving into historical documentaries, irreverent comedies, and great music. But above all, her deepest joy came from her granddaughters, Emma and Sophie. Whether hosting sleepovers when they were young, cheering them on in their many accomplishments, or simply getting their nails done together in recent months- every shared moment was treasured. She is survived by her mother, Hannah Eva (Gillespie) Norcross; her son, Damon Norcross, and his wife, Melanie; and her beloved granddaughters, Emma and Sophie. She also leaves behind her siblings, Rene Hardage (and husband Art), Jim Norcross, and Shawn Norcross; her nephew Joshua Chandler (wife Ellie and son Jax); and a wide circle of extended family and friends who loved her dearly. Hannah was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ruth and Calvin "Jim" Gillespie; her brother Rickey Norcross; nephew Andrew James Chandler; sister-in-law Gwen Norcross; and many dear friends she stood beside in their final days. A private family burial will take place in her birthplace of Weirton, West Virginia. In honor of Hannah's life and the legacy of care she leaves behind, her loved ones invite all to carry her spirit forward-by showing kindness, listening with your whole heart, and extending compassion in big and small ways. Donations in her memory can be made to your local Boys & Girls Club or your local National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate.
